This blog will include my unkempt thoughts on science, politics, music, wombats and cats. Breaks will be allowed for attending to your real job, naps, thirst and fatigue. Greetings.

Torture is Wrong

...and governments that torture are on the way to tyranny...
and nations that support such governments are on the road to failure.

I just wanted to say that before the loathsome cowards in Congress gut Free Speech.

Congressman Brian Higgins Supports Torture

...and if you are still glad you voted for him, then yes, I do consider you a fascist or a fascist fellow-traveler.

U.S. Congress hates the Bill of Rights

This from Wikipedia:"
Generally speaking, ex post facto laws are seen as a violation of the rule of law as it applies in a free and democratic society. Most common law jurisdictions do not permit retroactive legislation, though some have suggested that judge-made 'law' is retroactive as a new precedent applies to events that occurred prior to the judicial decision. In some nations that follow the Westminster system of government, such as the United Kingdom, ex post facto laws are technically possible as parliamentary supremacy allows the parliament to pass any law it wishes. However, in a nation with an entrenched bill of rights or a written constitution, ex post facto legislation may be prohibited."

This from Busy Busy Busy:
The Ticket. From the language of today's AGREEMENT UPON COMMON ARTICLE 3, per Marty Lederman at Balkanization:
(2) RETROACTIVE APPLICABILITY. The amendments made by this section, except as specified in paragraph 2441(d)(2)(E) of title 10, United States Code, shall take effect as of November 26, 1997, as if enacted immediately after the amendments made by section 583 of Public Law 105-118 (as amended by section 4002 of Public Law 107-273).

U.S. Congress

I think it is high time we adopt an old British tradition: giving parliaments monikers in keeping with their activity or characteristics. The present U.S. Congress should henceforth and for all time be known as the Congress of Torturers.

The founding fathers would be so proud.

Pope Bubbleboy pulls a Bush

Do you think it is wise for the leader of the gang that brought us the crusades, the inquisition, heretic smores and blood-thirsty anti-Semitism to claim that some other religion hasn’t contributed anything but violence?

Since when is saying “and I quote” the rhetorical equivalent of a get out of jail free card?

ABC lies about 9/11

Nothing funny to say about that. We really are starting to hit rock bottom.

Poland: Yet another nation taken over by dangerous idiots.

The "christian" right wing pygmies that now run Poland have decided to slander Jacek Kuron and Zbigniew Herbert: two of the the great minds and hearts of the intelligent struggle against Stalinism in Central Europe. Is it an accident that the attacks on these moral and mental giants had to wait until they were both dead and thus unable to take part in their own defenses?
